Description

The Ten-Spike Drackel (pictured here ransacking an unguarded nest of hatchling Ursisuchids) is a dog-sized, agile and nocturnal predatory Ranamonarchiforme anuran native to western Wumbus and belonging to a family spread throughout most of the continent's rainforests. Like Bufolopes and Bunkinya, they are the grounded descendants of early flying species. Drackels are largely hairless but retain a thin coat of fuzzy fibers upon their smooth skin which are iridescent in nature upon the forelimbs of the male. The Drackels are notable for mildly venomous bites to kill the small vertebrate prey animals which constitute most of their diets. Though not fatal to large animals, the toxin does perform a sort of numbing, sedative effect on animals bitten by the predator, allowing the animal to more easily subdue larger prey than itself which it could not handle in an alert state. Drackels also are attracted to wounded or dying animals far larger than themselves which they lull into a peaceful, eternal sleep through repeated quick nips and retreats until the ailing creature has relaxed enough to stop fighting back and finally allows the little predators which, attracted by the commotion, crowd every nearer around it to close in and begin to eat it alive.
