Rough Waters

Central Pacific ocean, almost 3 million years ago from the modern day; death comes violently to a sub-adult C. megalodon as a pack of early orcas, smaller but no less powerful than their modern descendants, pummel into it with jaws and flukes, working together to burst open its body cavity. For millions of years this magnificent apex predator ruled the world's oceans without equal, but times are now changing; the seas are now home to a new and rising dynasty of intelligent and cooperative predators more than capable of turning the tables on the historic 'whale-eating shark', challenging brute brawn with brains and strength in numbers. Bludgeoned and weak from blood loss, the shocked shark has no strength left to fight any longer as its competitors feast on its liver and other internal organs, sharing the spoils with the young - the hunters of the future. For the orcas, the future is bright, but the sun is setting on the rule of the sharks - in only a few thousand years, the once great ruler of the sea will have vanished entirely from its depths, with only scattered teeth washed ashore to ever tell the story of its once indomitable reign.
